Halyna Chaudhary’s Watercolour Painting Master Class
“Painting Landscape from Life”

On May 29, 2016 the Ukrainian artist Halyna Chaudhary whose exhibition titled “Inspiration” had earlier opened in the IRMT Exhibition Hall, conducted a master class in the Helena Roerich Academy of Arts for Children, IRMT, Naggar.

The artist gave the students a guided tour of her exhibition telling them about her art and explaining some of the technical aspects of landscape painting, still life and portraiture.

Their interaction continued in the Academy premises.  The veranda of the 1st floor where the children study drawing and painting, offers a beautiful view of the snow-capped mountains on the other side of the Kullu valley and the green pines growing beside the Academy building.

At the end of the class the young artists happily shared their experience. They acquired the priceless experience of painting mountain landscape from life in watercolour and had the pleasure of creative interaction with a renowned artist.

Halyna Chaudhary proposed to the children to try depicting the landscape they see from the window. She let the students work by themselves supervising them, explaining drawing technique and sharing the secrets of her craft. First they made pencil sketches and then applied watercolours. Despite their steady desire to depict imaginary landscape the artist continuously encouraged them to paint from life.
