“Waves of Colour” – International Exhibition of Artists from Punjab, Haryana and Dubai (UAE)
From June 6 to 9, the International Roerich Memorial Trust in Naggar hosted the international group art exhibition “Waves of Colour” (“Rang Tarang”), organized by the Kalakar Sangh Punjab Art Association (Jalandhar, Punjab).
The exhibition brought together artists from Jalandhar, Yamunanagar and Dubai, showcasing works in a wide range of styles and techniques. The event was inaugurated by Sandhya Dewan, Director of Cambridge International School, Nakodar (Punjab). The opening ceremony was attended by Larisa Surgina, Russian Curator of the International Roerich Memorial Trust, and Suresh Kumar, Indian Curator of the Trust, along with numerous guests, artists, and staff members.
The exhibition featured 75 artworks created by twelve artists. Visitors had the opportunity to explore paintings executed in watercolor, acrylic, oil, charcoal, and mixed media. A significant portion of the exhibition was devoted to watercolor landscapes celebrating the beauty of mountain scenery. Particularly striking were two large-scale watercolor paintings of the Himalayas by Harish Verma, which captured the grandeur, depth, and majesty of the mountains with remarkable sensitivity and skill.
The exhibition also included vibrant floral compositions, spiritually inspired works, and paintings reflecting the beauty and diversity of nature.
Among the organizers and participating artists were Harish Verma, well known for his calligraphic works, as well as Babita Rani, Ankush Atthi, Rajinder Sharma, Dapinder Kaur, Diksha, Sarabjit, Rakesh, Deepa, Arushi, Apurva, Sukhman, and other members of the Kalakar Sangh Punjab collective.
One of the most inspiring aspects of the exhibition was the participation of young artists. Some contributors were only sixteen years old, yet their works demonstrated impressive technical ability, creative confidence, and a sincere dedication to the visual arts.
Holding the exhibition at the International Roerich Memorial Trust added special significance to the event. Nicholas Roerich emphasized the transformative role of art in society and famously stated, “Art will unite humanity.” This idea was vividly reflected in the exhibition itself, which brought together artists of different generations, backgrounds, and artistic approaches.
The exhibition received positive feedback from visitors, tourists, and art enthusiasts alike. According to Russian artist Amia, the exhibition stood out for its diversity, vibrant colours, and high artistic quality, while also providing a valuable opportunity to discover the work of artists from different regions.
«“I was especially drawn to the depictions of Lord Krishna,” Amia noted, “as well as to the portraits, in which the artists sought to convey the character and emotional depth of their subjects. Each artwork reflects the unique style and creative vision of its author.”»
The organizers emphasized that one of the primary goals of the project is to support artists, promote artistic culture, and create new opportunities for creative exchange. Hosting the exhibition at the Roerich Memorial Trust became an important contribution to cultural dialogue and to the promotion of contemporary art.
