International Yoga Day at IRMT
Early in the morning, Indian and Russian guests and staff of the Roerich Trust gathered at the Roerich Estate despite heavy rain. The hosts of this day of yoga at the IRMT were Dr. Sushma, Dr. Anu and Dr. Amita, who introduced the participants to the basics of yoga, as well as yoga masters Sushil and Kalpana, who gave practical yoga classes to those present.
On June 21, an event dedicated to the International Day of Yoga was held at the Green Theater of the Roerich Memorial Trust. According to tradition, it was organized in cooperation with the Kullu District Administration and the local office of the Ministry of AYUSH, which is responsible for the development of education, research and dissemination of traditional medicine systems in India, including yoga.
In 2016, UNESCO listed yoga as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. "On this International Day of Yoga, let us follow the spirit of unity and strive to build a better, more harmonious world for people, planet and ourselves," urged UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
At the end of the program Larisa Surgina, the Russian Curator of IRMT expressed her gratitude to the organizers for the festive event and stressed that the International Yoga Day is a wonderful occasion to unite. On this day in Russia, many people gather in sports stadiums, parks, halls, to join yoga - an ancient Indian physical, mental and spiritual practice that offers a holistic approach to health and spiritual well-being.
This year the world celebrated International Yoga Day for the tenth time.
In a message dedicated to this day, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized that yoga unites, it "brings together body and mind; humanity, nature and millions of people on the planet for whom yoga is a source of strength, harmony and peace".
