Himalayan Splendour in the Roerich Estate
She also exhibited a series of landscapes of remarkable locations in various parts of Himachal Pradesh. These paintings demonstrate her growing confidence as an artist and her increasing command over different media. Among them one could see the faithful representation of the Dhankar Monastery overlooking the Pin Valley in Spiti with its tiny structures precariously perched on top of the hill, and the magnificent view of the famous Chander Tal Lake on the way to Spiti with the stunningly stark landscape of serrated yellow rocks reflected in it.
On May 27-30, 2017, a self-taught artist from Manali, Distt. Kullu, Mrs. Anuradha Thalwal held a short exhibition at the International Roerich Memorial Trust, Naggar It is her second exhibition in the Roerich Estate (and, incidentally, her second exhibition ever) and one could immediately see the remarkable progress she made over the past one year.
Apart from her old works that include a number of forest and mountain landscapes, she displayed her new flower series (depicting mostly lily and bell flower). Most of them are painted from life since she collects flowers at her home and loves tending them. Compared to her earlier pictures of flowers, these works show her improved capacity for detailing and sensitive and harmonious treatment of colour.
Mrs. Thalwal also brought with her a number of mountain landscapes not necessarily depicting specific locations but clearly inspired by the timeless beauty of the Himalayas – the region she comes from, loves and knows so well.
