The 147th anniversary from the day when Helena Roerich was born

She was a great Russian lady, deep thinker and philosopher. Helena was born in St-Petersburg and spent the first half of her life in Russia, India became her second Fatherland. It was in Naggar where Helena Roerich spent 20 years of her life, she came here with her husband and sons.

Significance of personality and work of Helena Roerich still is not fully realized. In her childhood Helena was very unusual girl; spiritually gifted she was very much different from her peers. After some time these qualities were transformed into a series of spiritual abilities such as clairaudience, clairvoyance, telepathy. The most significant of these was intuition. In Agni Yoga, Helena Roerich created it together with the Great Master, it is said that intuition is the result of direct contact with the Supreme Cosmic matter and with the Higher Worlds. Helena became the intermediary between the Higher World and the earthly world. Experience of Helena Roerich is associated with the greatest spiritual Masters experiences, such as Krishna, Buddha, Christ, Mohammed, Saint Sergius.

Earth and Heavens were harmoniously combined in this amazing woman. On the one hand, it was the most educated person of her time, a writer and public figure, while remaining a loving wife and caring mother. At the same time, she was an outstanding philosopher and a co-worker of the Highest Powers. This side of Helena Roerich's life is illustrated with graphic drawings, diary entries, books of Living Ethics.

Helena Roerich was the inspiration of all the most important creative evolutionary actions of the Roerich family. Her role in the Central Asian expedition was significant, the expedition lasted more than 4 years. Helena Roerich equally with men passed all the hardships of this expedition, exposed herself to freezing temperatures and starved in Tibet. During forced standing on a plateau in Tibet Chantang temperatures sometimes drop below 50 degrees. Despite all the difficulties, the Roerichs survived and did what is necessary to mankind in its evolution.

Another important event was the creation of the Institute of Himalayan Studies Urusvati here in Kullu valley. Helena Roerich was the honorary president of the Institute, where new science and new system of knowledge were formed - philosophy of cosmic reality.

Helena Roerich was a co-creator of the Roerich Pact - Treaty for preservation of historical and cultural objects. This document is still relevant, because during wars and in peaceful times monuments are still being destroyed.

The most important thing in Helena Roerich's life was to create the teaching of Living Ethics, or Agni Yoga. In the history of humanity there are a lot of new doctrines whose purpose is to bring people new knowledge of the Higher World and about cosmic evolution and man's place in this evolution. In the books of Living Ethics ancient knowledge of the East of Macrocosm and Microcosm is connected with modern scientific discoveries. The main goal of the Living Ethics is broadening of the mind of a human being, his moral and spiritual perfection.

 Work on the Living Ethics demanded great tension and effort of Helena Roerich. Messages from afar were not only in words but often in mental images. She sketched them. These drawings are the evidence of Helena's conscious contact with the world of higher state of matter. Many of the drawings of Helena Roerich became the basis of paintings of Nicholas Roerich. Roerich called his paintings "artistic commentary" to the Living Ethics.

Helena Roerich began recording of Living Ethics in 1920 in England. This process continued during the Central Asian expedition, then here in the Kullu valley. In this real estate, in the Roerich House, there was a spiritual partnership of Helena Roerich and the Great Master.

Today these premises - the Roerich House, the Urusvati Institute and all the surrounding territories - it is not just a historical monument dedicated to the life of great personalities. It is truly an Ashram, a spiritual focus, a magnet that attracts people's attention from all over the world to this place. 

In conclusion, let us recall the words of Helena Roerich: "The feeling of responsibility should be developed infinitely. The spirit of man, like the Creator, holds responsibility for all his deeds. We shall not be in fear of realizing the phenomenon of responsibility. We are responsible not only to ourselves, but also to the Cosmos."
