“We” Group Show in IRMT
On September 8-11, 2018, the members of “We,” a group of Indian contemporary women artists, exhibited their recent works in the International Roerich Memorial Trust (IRMT), Naggar. The exhibition displayed the works of six artists, including those by the founder president of “We” Prof. Sadhna Sangar, Principal, Government College, Derabassi, Punjab. Opening the exhibition, the Russian Curator of the IRMT on deputation from International Centre of the Roerichs, Moscow Mrs. Larisa Surgina highly appreciated the role of “We” in giving platform to Indian women artists and offering them a chance of artistic self-expression.
Prof. Sadhna Sangar presented several works celebrating apple – the main produce of the Kullu valley. She aptly depicted the tender beauty of apple bloom and the abundance of fruit in the autumn season (boughs laden with apples and ground literally strewn with them) which she witnessed personally and which created an unforgettable impression on her.
Uma Sharma, “an artist sans brush and paint,” exhibited several of her collages. Using old magazine paper and employing tear-and-paste technique, Mrs. Sharma creates impressive and lively landscapes, both rural and urban, including depictions of her native Mathura, the holy land of Krishna.
The exhibition also displayed a number of abstract reflections on the necessity of women’s unity in the world of today by the young artist from Mathura Varsha Rajput.
Two members of the group could not be present at the opening ceremony but sent their works: Dr. Gagan Deep (Ambala) presented a series of her touching depictions of Indian couples celebrating their togetherness and saturated with the feeling of harmony and inner happiness, while Bharati Richa Sharma (Chandigarh) displayed several of her abstract experimental works.
The atmosphere was truly festive and the event was attended by the guests from Russia, India and Israel.
The displayed works of Kiran Sharma (Shahabad) included her recent impressions of her native Himachal Pradesh (the lake near her village in Kangra District, the landscapes of Shimla, and the view of the famous Parashar Lake).
