Mahsu Art Exhibits in IRMT

A week-long exhibition of paintings by the Shimla-based society Mahsu Art opened in the International Roerich Memorial Trust (IRMT), Naggar on June 3, 2018. The Chief Guest of the opening ceremony was Dr. Rita Singh, Advisor (Hindi), Ministry of Finance, Government of India; Member, Art, Language and Culture Academy, State Government of Himachal Pradesh. On behalf of the IRMT, the artists and guests were welcomed by Mrs. Larisa Surgina, Russian Curator, and Mr. Ramesh Chander, Indian Curator. The exhibition was presented by Dr. Bhader Singh, Asst. Professor in Painting, Rajakiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV), Shimla.

The objective of Mahsu Art is to provide platform for young artists (most of whom are students or recent graduates of fine arts) and help them hone their skills under the tutelage of accomplished artists. This time, the exhibition displayed the works by 30 artists (26 from various states of India including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, and four from Nepal). The participants of the exhibition also included two guest artists: Tirthankar Biswas (Delhi) and Prof. Him Chatterjee, Chairperson, Deptt. of Visual Arts, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.

The exhibited works greatly differing in genre, style and media included abstract impressions, still lives, illustrations, woodcuts, landscapes, townscapes, and a number of splendid portraits of the tension-free  and spontaneous inhabitants of the Himalayan region and religious ascetics steeped in timeless wisdom.
