Concept Plan of the Development of the International Roerich Memorial Trust, Naggar Presented at IRMT Board of Trustees Meeting in the Capital

of Himachal Pradesh, India

On November 30, 2018, the 18th Board of Trustees meeting of the International Roerich Memorial Trust (IRMT) founded in 1992-93 on the initiative of Svetoslav Roerich and his spouse Devika Rani to preserve, study and promote the Roerichs’ heritage in the Himalayan Kullu valley in Naggar, took place in Shimla.

The meeting was chaired by H.E. Jai Ram Thakur, Chief Minister, Himachal Pradesh-cum-President, IRMT, and participated in by H.E. Nikolay Kudashev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of India-cum-Vice President, IRMT, and other Indian and Russian trustees of the International Roerich Memorial Trust and invitees.

The meeting discussed the strategic and current issues related to the functioning and development of the International Roerich Memorial Trust. The Concept Architectural-Construction Plan of the development of the IRMT prepared by the leading architects and students of the Moscow Architecture Institute commissioned by the International Centre of the Roerichs (ICR), Moscow under the Agreement of Cooperation signed in 2012 in the Non-governmental Museum Named after Nicholas Roerich, Moscow was brought to the attention of the Board. The plan was introduced by Alexander Stetsenko, First Vice President, ICR (ICR is one of the life trustees of the IRMT) and presented by the head architect of the project Prof. Evgeny Polyantsev, Associate Member, Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences; Head of the Department of Reconstruction Architecture, Moscow Architecture Institute. The project was unanimously approved as the basis for the future development of the IRMT museum-scientific complex, which will include the carefully preserved memorial sites with the new museum premises, laboratory and research structures of ‘Urusvati’ Institute, and advanced world-class infrastructure harmoniously blended into it.

The meeting was held in the atmosphere of mutual understanding and constructive cooperation. It goes without saying that the joint effort of Russia and India to preserve and develop the Himalayan Roerich Estate in Naggar will contribute to the strengthening of cultural relations and friendly bonds between the two countries.
